What Actually Happens at Your Free Home Care Assessment
It Starts With Listening
A care assessment with Abbey Support & Services is not a process we run you through. It is a conversation we have with you β at your pace, in your own home, with a senior member of our Leicester care team who genuinely wants to understand the full picture before recommending anything. We begin by listening. We want to understand who your loved one is as a person β not just their care needs, but their daily routine, their preferences, their personality, what matters to them and what they would like their day to look like.
What We Cover Together
During the assessment, we cover everything needed to build a complete, accurate care plan β including the specific daily tasks your loved one needs help with, any medical conditions or clinical requirements, their home environment and any safety considerations, their communication style and how they prefer to interact with carers, their social interests and anything that matters to their quality of life, and the level and frequency of support that would be most helpful.
What You Receive After
Within 48 hours of the assessment, we provide a written care plan summarising everything discussed and setting out our recommended care package β including suggested visit frequency, duration, specific care tasks and any specialist requirements. This document is yours to keep and consider, regardless of whether you proceed with Abbey. There is no obligation and no expiry date on your decision. We are here when you are ready.

What Leicester Families Say About Their Abbey Care Assessment
For many families, the assessment is the moment everything becomes clearer.
I did not know what I was looking for when I first called. I just knew we needed help. The assessor who came to see Mum spent an hour and a half with us β she never rushed, she answered every question, and by the end I felt like I finally understood what care at home could actually look like. We were using Abbey within the week.
I was anxious about having someone come into my home. The assessment was the thing that settled me β she took her time, she was completely calm, and she listened to what I actually wanted. Not what she expected me to want. What I wanted. That was when I knew they were the right people.
I live in Edinburgh and I was doing everything by phone and email. The assessor rang me after visiting Dad and spent thirty minutes explaining everything β what she had found, what she recommended and why, what the options were. The written care plan arrived the next day. I felt completely informed from the first interaction.
I had spoken to two other agencies before Abbey. Both felt like sales calls. The Abbey assessment was completely different β no pressure, no package selling, just honest information about what my husband needed and what they could provide. We felt like people, not customers.
