For many families, seeking personal care support is not a simple decision. It involves trust β trusting another person with the most private aspects of daily life. At Abbey Support & Services, our carers are trained not just in the tasks of personal care, but in the way those tasks are delivered β with genuine warmth, patience and unconditional respect. We take time to find the right carer for each client. Same face, same routine, same standards β every visit.

Personal care is often the first service families seek when a loved one begins to struggle with the routines they have managed independently for decades. Whether it is difficulty getting in and out of the bath, managing buttons on clothing, or maintaining oral hygiene safely, these changes can feel deeply significant.
Abbey Support & Services provides personal care at home in Leicester that is designed around that emotional reality. We build a relationship with each client β understanding their preferences, their pace and their personal standards β so that every visit feels like support from someone they know and trust.
We understand how important it is for your loved one to feel comfortable with their carer. That is why we take considerable care to match each client with a carer whose personality, communication style and approach are the right fit.
We ask the right questions at the assessment stage. Does your loved one prefer a quieter, gentle manner or a cheerful, chatty approach? Do they have strong preferences about how personal care tasks are done? All of this shapes the care plan β and the carer we choose.
Wherever possible, the same carer will visit for every scheduled personal care appointment. This continuity matters enormously. A carer who knows your loved one well notices changes, adapts instinctively and responds to non-verbal cues that a new visitor simply would not. If a covering carer is ever needed, we always introduce them in advance.

Our personal care visits are tailored entirely around the individual β their routine, their preferences and their level of independence. Every task is completed at the client's pace.
Assistance with getting into and out of the bath or shower safely, washing hair, and full body washing β adapted to the client's preference and comfort level.
Patient support with choosing, putting on and taking off clothing β including adaptive clothing where needed. We follow the client's own preferences.
Hair brushing and styling, shaving or beard care, nail care, skincare and the small personal touches that make a person feel presentable and like themselves.
Assistance with brushing teeth, denture care and mouth hygiene β important for both health and dignity, carried out with complete sensitivity.
Dignified assistance with toileting, incontinence pad changes, catheter care and related hygiene β delivered with absolute professionalism.
Safe assistance with getting in and out of bed, including the use of any mobility aids or equipment β following moving and handling best practice.
Reminding your loved one to take prescribed medication at the correct times, and β where trained β administering medication in accordance with the care plan.
Regular application of prescribed creams, monitoring of pressure areas and early identification of changes in skin condition β documented and reported promptly.
Preparation and serving of a light breakfast, morning medication, drinks and any other nutritional requirements β ensuring your loved one starts the day well.
A written record completed at every visit β documenting what was done, how the client appeared, and anything notable β shared with the family.
Pay directly for full flexibility over visit times, carer choice and service scope. Clear, written quotes with no hidden charges.
If your loved one has been awarded a personal budget by Leicester City or Leicestershire County Council, direct payments can fund personal care with Abbey.
Personal care may be fully funded through NHS CHC for individuals with a primary health need. We liaise directly with the Integrated Care Board.
We can work with local authority-funded personal care packages, subject to commissioning arrangements.

Dignity in personal care is not a policy β it is a value. It is the difference between care that feels supportive and care that feels diminishing. Every personal care visit is delivered according to our unwavering commitment to the rights and dignity of the person being cared for.
Personal care tasks are conducted with complete privacy β doors closed, curtains drawn, conversations kept respectful. No client should feel exposed or embarrassed.
Our carers always explain what they are about to do before doing it, and always ask permission. A client's right to refuse any aspect of care is always respected.
We never rush. Personal care done well takes the time it takes β and our visit lengths are planned to reflect that. Rushing is not acceptable practice at Abbey.
We encourage and support independence wherever it exists. If your loved one can complete part of a task themselves, our carer supports β not replaces β that effort.
Every visit is documented. What was provided, how the client presented, any concerns observed β all recorded accurately and available to the family.

Getting personal care in place is a significant step β and we are here to make it as straightforward and reassuring as possible.

"Finding someone to help Mum with her personal care was something I had been dreading. The carer they matched her with is extraordinary β kind, unhurried, and completely respectful. Mum actually looks forward to her visits now."

"Dad was mortified at the idea of someone helping him wash and dress. Within two visits, he was at ease with his carer and the routine felt completely natural. The transition was handled with such sensitivity."
β Michael R.

"My mother is a very private person with very particular ways of doing things. Abbey took the time to understand all of that before a single visit began. Her carer does everything exactly the way Mum likes."

"The consistency of the same carer every morning cannot be overstated. My father knows exactly who is coming, what time they arrive, and how they work. That predictability is what makes the difference."
