Abbey Support & Services provides palliative and end-of-life care at home across Leicester and Leicestershire β working sensitively alongside hospice teams, district nurses, GPs and community palliative care specialists to ensure your loved one is comfortable, cared for and surrounded by the people and surroundings they love.
We know that this is not simply a care service. It is one of the most significant and sacred periods in a person's life β and in the life of everyone who loves them. We approach every palliative care arrangement with the humility, gentleness and complete commitment that this moment deserves.
If you need to speak to someone today, please call us directly. We will always answer.

When we speak with families during what is often the hardest period of their lives, the most consistent thing we hear is this: "She wants to be at home." Or: "He would never want to go into a hospital or care home at the end." It is one of the most profound and understandable wishes a person can have.
Research conducted by Hospice UK and the NHS consistently confirms that the large majority of people, when asked where they would like to die, say at home. Fewer than one in five actually achieve that wish β most often because the right care support is not available or not known about. Abbey Support & Services exists, in part, to change that for families across Leicester and Leicestershire.
Palliative and end-of-life care at home is not simply nursing care β it is a combination of practical support, compassionate presence, coordination with clinical teams, and the quiet work of ensuring that someone's final weeks or days are as peaceful, dignified and comfortable as possible.
Our carers work in close partnership with community palliative care nurses, hospice teams, GPs and district nurses. We attend to the practical aspects β personal care, medication support, repositioning, nutrition and hydration β so that the clinical team can focus on symptom management, and so that the family can focus on simply being present.
Palliative care at home is not only care for the patient β it is care for the entire family. The emotional and physical demands on family members who are present at end of life are enormous. Abbey's palliative care service creates space for family members to step back from the practical demands and simply be a son, daughter, spouse or friend β not a sole carer.

Every palliative care arrangement is unique β shaped by the individual's condition, their wishes, their family's involvement and the clinical support already in place.
Gentle, unhurried personal care β washing, hygiene and comfort measures β carried out with the sensitivity and patience that end-of-life personal care requires.
Prompting, monitoring and β where trained and authorised β administering prescribed medications including palliative pain relief, in coordination with the clinical team.
Assistance with eating and drinking where appetite permits, oral care for comfort, and monitoring of nutritional and hydration status β reported to clinical teams.
Regular, gentle repositioning to prevent pressure sores, monitoring of skin integrity, and documentation of any concerns for the nursing team.
Careful observation of the patient's condition, comfort level and any changes in presentation β documented after every visit and reported promptly to the clinical team.
Active, ongoing communication with hospice nurses, community palliative care teams, district nurses and GPs β ensuring seamlessly integrated care.
Palliative care needs do not conform to office hours. We provide visits across the full day, evening and overnight β including sleep-in and waking night cover.
Sitting with, talking to and being present for your loved one β offering the human warmth and quiet reassurance that medication cannot provide.
Light practical tasks β making tea, keeping the environment comfortable, answering the door β allowing family members to remain focused on their loved one.
Planned or responsive respite cover for family members who need rest, time away or space to attend to their own needs β ensuring the carer is cared for, too.
Palliative care at home is most effective when every member of the care team works together β sharing information, coordinating timing and responding to changes quickly.
We work regularly alongside Leicester hospice services and community palliative care nurse specialists. Our carers communicate any changes in condition promptly and clearly.
District nurses manage clinical care, wound care, catheter care and medication administration. Our carers provide the daily support framework around which clinical visits fit.
We maintain clear lines of communication with the patient's GP and β where relevant β specialist palliative medicine consultants. Our care records are accurate and available on request.
Our care records are completed after every visit and are accessible to family members and clinical teams. We document what was observed, provided and any changes noted.
Our team is trained to recognise signs of deterioration and to respond appropriately β escalating to clinical partners, contacting family members and adjusting visit schedules without delay.
Full flexibility over scheduling, carer choice and visit frequency. We provide a clear, written quote before care begins β no hidden charges.
Many individuals receiving palliative care qualify for fully funded NHS CHC packages. Fast-track CHC assessment is available for those nearing end of life β your GP or hospice team can initiate this.
Local authority personal budgets may be used to fund palliative care visits with Abbey.
Subject to assessment and commissioning arrangements β please contact us to discuss your circumstances.

We consider it a great privilege to have been trusted by families across Leicester and Leicestershire during the most profound moments of their lives.
"Abbey made it possible for Mum to come home from the hospital in her final weeks. The carer they sent was extraordinary β quiet, kind, completely skilled and utterly devoted to Mum's comfort. We will never forget what she did for our family."
β Catherine M.
Daughter of client, Oadby
"When the hospital said Dad could be discharged for end-of-life care at home, we did not know who to call. Abbey answered the phone on a Saturday afternoon and had a carer with us by Monday morning. The speed, the compassion and the professionalism were extraordinary."
β Richard T.
Son of client, Knighton
"The carer who supported my husband during his final weeks was like a quiet guardian angel. She never intruded on our time together, but she was always there when we needed her β practical, gentle, and entirely devoted to his dignity."
β Maureen H.
Spouse of client, Evington
"What I did not expect was the support for us, the family, as much as for my father. Abbey's carer would make us cups of tea, gently check on how we were coping, and somehow always knew when to give us space. It was care of the most complete kind."
β Anna C.
Daughter of client, Wigston
